How does practicing GRATITUDE help the Planet?
In many ways! One way is that having gratitude allows you to see more and more that you have enough “stuff”, enough “love”,and enough “time” etc.
The advertising industry, once again, thrives off of making us believe that we don’t have enough and that we are not good enough.
It thrives on our sense of SCARCITY & LACK. We feel that we don’t have enough, so we go out and buy clothes, gadgets, or food!
The more you practice gratitude, the less you will want to buy. You will find that your perspective changes from not having enough and not being enough to having plenty and being whole and complete and perfect the way you are! You will find that you have more than enough STUFF and actually too much STUFF!
The less STUFF you consume, the less waste you produce and the more time you spend connecting and doing things you love which will then have a ripple effect on everyone else!
At first, I really didn’t believe that thanking the universe (the Divine energy force or God whatever you choose to believe in) actually would make a difference in my moods or perspective. I thought it was a “trendy” thing to do in the arena of self help.
One day after watching a You Tube clip from the beloved author and spiritual leader, Wayne Dyer, I decided to try it. Abiding by the 66 day rule of thumb which I learned from the inspirational leader and now brain expert and founder of the “Neurogym”, John Assaraf, I tried it.
- When I wake up, I give gratitude to the UNIVERSE for at least 5 things.
- Throughout the day, if I find myself focusing on negative events past or current, I think of 5 things for which to give gratitude. We have been programmed to focus on all of the negative circumstances, so we have to consciously change that pattern!
- At the end of the day, I give gratitude again for at least 5 things, and I sit with those images and really feel how fortunate I am (the combination of thought & emotion).
- I also marked down the exact date that I started and days that I may have missed so that I can track my progress.
This is my ritual, and it works for me right now. You may need to practice more or less gratitude depending on your current mindset.
Focus on PROGRESS not PERFECTION!
If you forget a day or morning, it’s OK! Be gentle with yourself and continue on as you were doing!
We are human and have so many things going on on a daily basis, acknowledge yourself for wanting to improve yourself and keep going!
